St. Jude's Parish has salary, tax, insurance, utility and maintenance expenses, and also plans projects, upgrades, outreach and assistance.   We require over $2,800 per week.   We do get about $225 per week from Our Lady of Divine Love parish.  Delta Bingo is projected to provide 8% of our revenue, down from 20%.  Fundraising activities by the Ladies' Association as well as social events are key.   For the parish to flourish, we must donate generously and regularly.

The rule of thumb is one hour's wage or 2.5% of your gross income; less from those in need, and more from those who can afford it.  Tithing 10% is a sacrifice that leaves you feeling richer than when you began.

Donate by Cash or Cheque

Place your money in your envelope and put it in the basket during Mass.  Those unable to come to weekend Mass for health reasons can mail it to the parish by post, or drop it in the office mail slot.  Use the envelopes provided by the office for the current year, and write the amount on the envelope, so that we can accurately log your donations for your tax receipt.

Donate by Interac eTransfer

Interac eTransfer is suitable for people who do have online banking, but don't have cheques or stamps, or are not yet able to come to Mass regularly.  If you wish to donate by Interac eTransfer, send it to:

finance@stjudesparish2020.com

You will have to include a security question and answer, so send that to the bookkeeper in a separate email to the same address.  The National Bank of Canada provides this service for free.

Donate by canadahelps.org

canadahelps.org simplifies one-time and automatic monthly donations through your credit card.  It's great for people who want to set up their donations once and for all, and be done with it.  However, they are a service, so keep about 4% of your donation.   To donate this way, click canadahelps.org

Mass Intentions

Before Mass begins, the commentator says, "Today's Mass is offered for..."  This is the intention of the Mass.  The priest and people pray in a special way for that person, uniting them supernaturally.  The usual donation is $15 for an announced or unannounced Mass intention.  The donation ordinarily goes to the priest as a stipend.  An announced Mass intention is published in the bulletin and made known before a public celebration of the Mass.  The deadline for Mass intentions is Thursday at noon.

A priest is paid one stipend per day, but is also paid for weddings and funerals that occur on the same day.  Donations for Mass intentions that are not paid to the priest as a stipend (i.e. when there are multiple intentions) are divided between the parish and diocese in accordance with canon law.

Donations made for Mass intentions are NOT included in the tax receipt.

Candles

Candles

People light candles in church as a form of prayer, asking for the intercession of a particular saint for a given need.  We have green candles for St. Jude; white candles for St. Anthony of Padua; red candles for St. Joseph; and blue, white and yellow candles for the Blessed Virgin Mary.  People also light red candles in memory of a loved one.  The cost for a small candle is $1, and $5 for a large candle.

Sanctuary Lamp Devotion

Before a weekend Mass begins, you will hear words starting with, "This week the sanctuary lamp glows for..."  The intention is also listed in the bulletinYou can request a dedication for a loved one, past or present.  The cost is $10.  Please contact the office for more information.

The parish is NOT subject to diocesan tax on income from candles, but donations made for candles are NOT included in the tax receipt.

Why Not Pre-Authorized Debit?

Pre-authorized debit (PAD) is suitable for people with a regular income, especially if their travels take them away from the parish.  The National Bank of Canada does provides this service for a minimal charge, but parishioners have not expressed sufficient interest to proceed.

Diocesan Tax

13% of our revenue from the following sources goes to the diocese:  regular collection; New Year's, Easter, Christmas; weddings and funerals; donations; hall rentals; and advertising revenue.

The following sources of revenue are not subject to diocesan tax:  Delta Bingo and Gaming contributions; Sunday school registrations; Ladies' Association donations; social events; Matthew 25 donations; initial offerings; vigil lights; sale of religious articles; and sacraments.  Rebates and transfers from Our Lady of Divine Love for the pastor's salary and mileage are also exempt.

100% of special collections goes to the archdiocese and then on to their recipients, including:  Diocesan Missionary Works, Share Lent, Holy Land, Vocation Works, Pastoral Works of the Holy Father, Needs of the Canadian Church, Evangelization of the Nations, and Diocese of Hearst-Moosenee.

 Income Tax Receipts

Income tax receipts were made available at the weekend Masses of 17/18 and 24/25 February 2024.  We mailed remaining receipts on 28 February 2024.
