Si leo con mis ojos (es decir, con un criterio personal únicamente) voy a ser incapaz de captar los signos de los tiempos, es decir, la manifestación de Dios en el mundo.

Un lector católico (que no es lo mismo que un católico lector) debe, por lo menos, cumplir estas cinco habilidades o hábitos para ser considerado como tal:

	1. Mirar más allá de las circunstancias propias de su tiempo y lugar, para poder identificarse con personas de otros continentes, de otros siglos.
	2. Aceptar, con tranquilidad de ánimo, las estructuras tradicionales y la autoridad legítima.
	3. Enfrentar con rigor y buena voluntad el reconocimiento del pecado y la muerte, sin ver esto como una razón para rebelarse.
	4. Caminar hacia la sabiduría de la experiencia y desconfiar de las modas intelectuales y de las conspiraciones racionalistas.
	5. Estar dispuestos a contemplar la vida como un drama singular a lo largo de la historia, en el cual cada persona tiene un papel potencial importante.
